SCADA systems for monitoring and industrial automation | Unisyst Engineering

SCADA (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition) systems provide centralised monitoring, data acquisition and visualisation for automated devices and processes. Unisyst Engineering offers two main approaches for building flexible SCADA architectures for industrial, energy and building automation applications. These include the DS software platform for MS Windows and PLC200 industrial controllers with integrated SCADA functionality and a web interface, allowing the solution to be configured according to the specific facility and its local or remote monitoring and control requirements.

SCADA solutions for different industrial applications

Modern monitoring systems can use different architectures depending on the scale and nature of the process. In IoT applications, devices transmit information about their status and operating parameters over a network, enabling remote monitoring and control.

In industrial applications, the architecture typically includes programmable logic controllers (PLCs), sensors, measuring devices, converters and data concentrators. The individual components need to exchange information reliably, while the collected data must be processed, archived and presented in a format that is convenient for operators.

The use of standard communication protocols facilitates the integration of different devices and enables the system to be expanded with additional measurement and control points. Depending on the requirements of the specific project, Unisyst Engineering implements the SCADA architecture using either the DS software platform or PLC200 controllers with integrated Web SCADA.

DS for centralised data acquisition and control

The DS platform runs under MS Windows and enables data acquisition from an unlimited number of devices using standard protocols via a serial communication channel or TCP/IP Modbus. The logging interval and storage method can be configured for each data stream, allowing the archive to be organised according to the requirements of the specific technological process.

Current and historical data can be displayed in graphical or tabular form, while visualisation can be distributed across any number of screens using process mimic diagrams or tables. The DS software also generates a web-based interface for remote process monitoring.

The platform provides functionality beyond monitoring. The software can generate control commands, activate alarms when critical conditions occur and send SMS or e-mail notifications. Based on the archived data, reports can be generated and printed for a specified period, work shift or other defined criteria, either manually or automatically.

PLC200 industrial controllers with integrated Web SCADA

The PLC200 industrial controllers combine automated process control with data acquisition, archiving and visualisation. The controllers can be connected in a cascade and receive information directly from sensors or subordinate devices, with the data stored on non-volatile storage media.

Based on the incoming data, PLC200 controllers can manage end devices and execute predefined automation algorithms. The integrated web interface allows data to be visualised across any number of operator screens in the form of tables, graphs and process mimic diagrams.

The interface enables process mimic diagrams to be combined with control elements such as switches and buttons, as well as different indicators, bar graphs, pulse diagrams and charts. This allows the operator interface to be configured according to the specific process and the parameters that need to be monitored and controlled.

Applications for Unisyst Engineering SCADA systems

Unisyst Engineering solutions are designed for both local and distributed systems requiring reliable monitoring, centralised control and traceability of technological processes. They can be applied in industry, energy, infrastructure facilities and building automation. Implemented applications include:

  • control of a gas station with four local gas receivers supplying an industrial facility;
  • control of an irrigation and drainage system;
  • monitoring of a BMS installation;
  • monitoring of pharmaceutical warehouses with stringent requirements for control, reliability and traceability.

The choice between a centralised SCADA system based on DS platforms and an architecture using PLC200 controllers with integrated Web SCADA allows the solution to be adapted to the existing equipment, the number of monitored points, visualisation requirements and the required level of local or remote access.

Business partnership with Unisyst Engineering

Unisyst Engineering is expanding its presence in international markets and is seeking strategic business partners across the Balkan countries. The opportunity is aimed at companies operating in the industrial equipment and automation sector that are interested in a long-term partnership with a Bulgarian manufacturer of products and solutions for industrial process automation.

Frequently asked questions

What is a SCADA system?

SCADA is a supervisory control and data acquisition system used to collect, visualise and archive information from controllers, sensors and other automated devices. Depending on its configuration, a SCADA system can also provide process control, alarm management and remote access.

What is the difference between the DS and the PLC200?

The DS is a SCADA software solution for MS Windows designed for the centralised acquisition, archiving, visualisation and management of data from multiple devices. The PLC200 is a series of industrial controllers with integrated SCADA functionality and a web interface, enabling control and visualisation to be implemented directly at controller level.

Can the SCADA system be monitored remotely?

Yes. DS software provides a web-based interface for remote monitoring, while the PLC200 controller features an integrated web interface for visualisation and control through operator screens.
